The Training Division of Haywood County Emergency Services is responsible for the development, implementation, delivery and coordination of all training for the employees of Haywood County Emergency Services. A full-time Training / Operations Officer is responsible for this division.
The Education Coordinator has overall responsibility for all training activities within the system, serving both Basic and Advanced Life Support certified providers. In addition, the division has oversight responsibility for Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement within the system. The Education Coordinator also regularly serves as an instructor in various certification courses attend by both Haywood County employees and the general public. All instructors are certified through North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services.
Each EMS shift is assigned a Field Training Officer who serves in a training capacity in addition to their regular role as a paramedic shift member. They assist the Education Coordinator in implementing and monitoring the Service’s Quality Assurance and Improvement programs. They will also assist in training the other members of their respective shifts in the latest patient care methods and procedures.
The Division as a whole serves a total of 61 pre-hospital providers, 40 full-time and 15 part-time, of these 45 are certified Paramedics, the remainder are certified EMT-Intermediates. Emergency Services also has 4 Level I EMS Instructors and 8 Level II EMS Instructors which are certified through the NC Office of EMS. The Division also works closely with personnel from Haywood Community College and other training institutions to provide the best training possible for our employees.
