WoW Week 2016

Last week Middle School students participated in our 1st WoW (Without Walls) Week. During this four day week, February 8th - 11th, our students participated in both in and out of the classroom activities exploring the idea of living in, leading, and serving communities.

While the 8th graders are in D.C (their own Wow Week), our 6th and 7th graders spent some time away from campus serving the community as well as uniting as a community. On Monday February 8th, students began the week with a team building exercise at the FSU Reservation.

During the remainder of the week, while attending some regularly scheduled afternoon classes, students learned about and actively engaged in serving our local and global communities. Guest speakers (including our own Bill Krizner) shared their passions and experiences in ministering and serving where God has called them. On Wednesday (7th grade) and Thursday (6th grade) mornings, each TARGET class moved into our city to put action to words and serve at one of several different locations including Second Harvest, Florida Baptist Children’s Home and the Ronald McDonald House. Once again living our mission to “Be the Difference”.

One of Holy Comforter’s most memorable trips is the venture to Washington, D.C. each year. As a part of WoW Week the 8th grade class once again embarked on the much anticipated annual trip to Washington, D.C. After learning about our nation’s history and government over the past few years in their classrooms, students had the opportunity to experience first hand the sights and sounds of our nation’s capital. Throughout their four day adventure, students visited museums, monuments, Mt. Vernon and the U.S. Capitol Building. Additional highlights of the trip included ice-skating in the sculpture garden of the National Gallery of Art, a ride on the newly opened Capital Wheel, and an evening at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, where they were part of the show Shear Madness – an interactive comedy performance about murder at a hair salon. Upon returning from the trip, students complete various assignments related to their D.C experience.
