100 Mile Club and Crusader Running Company

"7:30 am – Lake Overstreet." All summer long, our HCES cross country runners received these messages from Coach Trent Mills. From the time school ended in May to the start of the new school year this August, Holy Comforter runners were hitting the trails to improve their endurance, condition, and prepare for the 2013 fall season. Returning runners were encouraged to reach 100 miles throughout the summer break, and new runners were challenged with a 75 mile goal.

This year, the cross country team began a new tradition, including HCES faculty and staff in the challenge and the invitation was accepted. While many teachers stayed active this summer, it was Mr. Mendenhall, Mrs. Durrance, Mrs. Carpenter, and Mrs. Vernon that met the 100 mile mark.

Middle School runners who reached their mile goals were Brecht Heuchan, Avery Smith, Emma McGibany, Katherine Resavage, Hailey Hobbs and Julianna Heuchan.

Their hard work has shown this season with a first place finish by our girls team and a third place finish by our boys team in the Miller Landing Madness in late August.

Coach Mills has a passion for running and wellness and has developed ways to keep our families involved and active, promoting a healthy lifestyle. He created the Crusader Running Company, a running club for families, friends, students, and teachers. The club meets each Sunday afternoon on Lawson's Course (HCES Cross Country Course) to enjoy fun, fellowship, and fitness. It is a great way for our community to join together as all abilities are welcome to run, walk, or jog at their own pace. The 1st meeting of the 2013-14 school year will be this Sunday, September 8th at 4:30pm.

This Fall, Coach Mills expanded the Running Company to our younger students creating a Lower School Running Club that meets once weekly to train with the MIddle School Cross Country team.
