This year, they’re raising funds to install a water fountain with a bottle filling station near the uniform exchange at the front of the school.

We’d love to see HCES families, grandparents, friends, and more come out to support our 8th graders. It’s a great chance for them to leave their mark on the school — and for all of us to enjoy a fun afternoon together!
Spread the word, swing by for a sparkling clean car, and help make this project a success. Let’s show our 8th graders some love!

    Goals for the Process:
    Students will -
    • Take ownership of their performance
    • Practice organizational and communication skills by compiling a presentation of their academic year
    • Engage in productive conversations about school
    • Identify strengths and areas for improvement
    • Critically and honestly evaluate their performance
    • Use evidence to support their analysis of their performance in school
    • Use the analysis of their progress to make plans for improvement
    • Set ambitious but attainable goals for the next school year
    • Determine and verbalize what help they might need to achieve their goals

Though not required, we encourage participation in the conference opportunity. You can sign up for a session by using the sign-up links below. Please sign up by your 6th or 7th grader's TARGET teacher. Conferences are in their TARGET classroom unless you are notified otherwise.

  • Second Harvest Family Volunteer Opportunity

We are excited to share another volunteer opportunity for students and their families. On April 26th, from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, HCES has volunteer slots available for up to 19 people at Lott's Community Garden in Monticello. Sweet potatoes, kale, turnips, and other healthy greens and crops are grown each year at Lott's Community Garden and donated to the Second Harvest food bank. Volunteers handle all aspects of the garden's maintenance, planting, and crop harvesting. Because of the location, Second Harvest will award an additional hour of volunteer service to each volunteer for their travel. For example, if you work an 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM shift, you will be awarded 4 hours of volunteer service. Great for our middle school students earning those hours!

One of the core values of an HCES education is our commitment and service to others. Over the years, as a school, we have established many successful outreach opportunities to support those in need in our local community. From our canned food drives to Guardian ad Litem, and more, we have partnered with local organizations to fulfill needs and this is another activity to further support our mission.

Here’s how you can get involved:
Second Harvest at Lott's Community Garden: Saturday, April 26, 2025, 8:30 am - 11:30 am, 39 Lott Road, Monticello FL, 32344

Sign up to volunteer by April 12.
NOTE: You must create an account to sign up.
    Click here to register. https://fightinghunger.volunteerhub.com/vv2/lp/hces
(There is no minimum age requirement to participate, but all children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.)

A special thank you to HCES parent Angela Parra for bringing this opportunity to our school community. We hope you will join us in supporting the Second Harvest on April 26 as we work to spread the HCES love throughout Tallahassee!

    Sincerely,
    Darby Scott, Chair

  • HCES & Gulf Winds Team up for Springtime Tallahassee Races on March 29th!

We are excited to share that once again, Gulf Winds Track Club (GWTC) has selected HCES as one of two not-for-profit beneficiaries of the 2025 Springtime Tallahassee Races. On Saturday morning, March 29, 2025, GWTC will run 3 different length races as part of the annual Springtime Tallahassee events. All three races run through the beautiful downtown of our Capital City. The ongoing partnership between GWTC and HCES will also welcome GWTC members to use our 8-lane collegiate-level track, built with state-of-the-art track materials.

We encourage our HCES community to run in the race or come and cheer on our HCES participants. Families can run or walk the 1 mile together and of course, individuals can run the longer races. HCES will have a tent with fruit and water at the end to celebrate our HCES racers.
