HCES Welcomes Dr. Myron Rolle in the 9th Installment of the Lecture Series

Holy Comforter Episcopal School hosted the 9th installment of the Lecture Series on Saturday, January 27th featuring former FSU and NFL safety, philanthropist and Rhodes Scholar Dr. Myron Rolle as he presented “The Enlightened Warrior.

Approximately 300 guest including HCES parents, students and members of the Tallahassee community attended to hear Dr. Rolle's inspiring message. He took us on a journey bringing us to where he is today as a neurosurgeon resident at Massachusetts General Hospital. He shared stories, experiences and things he learned along the way. Dr. Rolle stated his parents sacrificed a way of life, moving from the Bahamas to give him and his brothers the opportunity that citizenship in the United States could offer. Through that sacrifice, Dr. Rolle has made the most of each opportunity presented and has become an inspiration and role model for many. In addition to his academic, athletic and professional achievements, Dr. Rolle began the Myron L. Rolle Foundation in 2009 dedicated to the support of three health, wellness, and education initiatives benefiting children and families in need. He created "Our Way to Health," an anti-childhood obesity program for Native Americans that began in the Seminole Tribe of Florida, then through the partnership of the US Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar expanded to the Navajo, Hopi, and Pueblo tribes. In conjunction with the Florida Department of Children and Families and the Florida National Guard, Myron created the Myron Rolle Wellness and Leadership Academy designed to empower, equip, and uplift 100 Florida foster kids in a week full of leadership/nutritional training, character building, and guest speakers. He is also building a free health clinic in Exuma, Bahamas, the homeland of his grandparents, to better service the residents of the family island.

At the conclusion of the lecture, Dr. Rolle answered several questions from the audience and took the time to meet and greet guests. It was truly an honor to host Dr. Rolle and have the opportunity to share his story with our community.

The Holy Comforter Episcopal School Lecture Series provides a community forum where individuals will gather to hear engaging and enlightening conversation. Speakers have presented annual lectures on meaningful topics such as science and technology, education, parenting skills and civic leadership.
