The Family Empowerment Act Working Committee has been meeting to consider the short- and long-term impacts of the Family Empowerment Scholarship program (HB1). The committee has developed a list of initial questions to be considered in our effort to reach a recommendation for the Board of Trustees. We want to share those questions with you and invite you to include your own about the scholarship program and how it could affect your family and Holy Comforter.

The Family Empowerment Act Working Committee has been meeting to consider the short- and long-term impacts of the Family Empowerment Scholarship program (HB1). The committee has developed a list of initial questions to be considered in our effort to reach a recommendation for the Board of Trustees. We want to share those questions with you and invite you to include your own about the scholarship program and how it could affect your family and Holy Comforter.
- What current state regulations would the school be subject to as a condition of participation?
- What are the ongoing financial costs of participating in the program and how would these costs impact tuition for our families?
- Could admissions policies be impacted?
- What would the impact be on our existing financial aid program?
- How could the school benefit from the funds? What additional services might be available for students as a result?
- How could accepting the scholarship broaden the reach of the school, and impact the larger Tallahassee community?
- What are the implications for the school should the legislature reverse HB1 at some time in the future?
- How could regulations or program requirements evolve over time?
- If the current Board of Trustees chose to accept the scholarship but a future board decides participation is too onerous, how would a reversal impact families and the school?
While a decision to participate in the scholarship program may seem simple, there are many factors to consider, including some that involve a high level of risk. As we carefully consider the potential benefits and consequences, we are mindful that our charge is to evaluate based on what is best for the strategic, long-term health and well-being of the school.
Your questions and input are essential to our evaluation, and we hope you will take the time to participate in this process.
