Holy Comforter Episcopal School Attends State Latin Forum

Holy Comforter middle school Latin students recently attended the 2024 Florida Junior Classical League State Latin Forum in Orlando, Florida. The students competed in contests such as Certamen, solo costumes, original drawings, classical paintings, posters, original orations, heptathlon, mythology, audio/visual media, and Latin vocabulary. The group claimed the Creative Sweepstakes Third Place award (junior division), Ludi Sweepstakes Second Place (junior division), and the Overall Sweepstakes Sixth Place award (junior division) at the Forum awards ceremony. They competed against students from more than 40 school Latin programs across Florida.

The Forum, which was held April 11-13, had the theme of “Felix qui potuit rerum cognoscere causas.” - “Lucky is the one who can understand the causes of things.”

The team, led by Latin teacher Brian Burton and sponsors Jenna Long and Rachel Nordby, included students Andrew Barnes, Everett Beckley, Ricky Blais, Pierce Boyett, Charlie Coughlin, Bridges Ellis, Loula Fuller, Garrett Geers, Mason Greer, Logan Inglese, Bo Long, J.D. Long, Andrew Nordby, Peter Nordby, Isabella Prado, Oliver Sills, and Kelan Yoshikawa.

Parent chaperones were Stephanie Ellis, Abraham Prado, Rebecca Sills, Christine Geers-Chiu, and Lynn Blais. The team was assisted by Shawn and Rhaena Coughlin, Mako and Brenda Yoshikawa, Eliza Fuller, and Daniel Nordby.
