Congratulations HCES Senior Alumni Class of 2016
Holy Comforter's 8th grade class of 2012 graduated from 5 different local high schools (Leon, Lincoln, Chiles, Maclay, and North Florida Christian) and from one in Maryland and one in North Carolina. Although information is still coming in to us about scholarships and awards that they have won, we are so proud of their accomplishments that we couldn't wait to share it with you.
Individual Achievements of Note:
- Daniel Becker (Maclay) won the Best & Brightest Award in the Technology category. Daniel will graduate from Maclay School with honors and plans to enroll at Georgia Institute of Technology. Elyse Thompson (Leon) won the Best & Brightest Award in the Public Speaking category and will be a summa cum laude graduate. Other Best and Brightest nominees included Angela Groszos (Leon, social science).
- Judy Jo Shippen will graduate summa cum laude from Leon High School. She is a National Merit Finalist and will be attending the University of Florida on a FULL Academic Scholarship! She plans to major in Chemical Engineering.
- We have at least six (6!) student athletes signing letters of intent to play their sport in college. Katie Whitworth (Maclay) is a Biletnikoff Scholarship award winner and will run cross country and track for Mercer University. Kirby Allen (Maclay) will play soccer for Oglethorpe University. Elyse Thompson (Leon) and Gabrielle Rancourt (The Asheville School, NC) will both play volleyball at the next level at Emory University and Muhlenberg College, respectively. Anna Billings (Leon) and Lillie Kirbo (Chiles) will both compete on the Texas A&M University equestrian team next fall! Although not playing baseball next year, we also wanted to congratulate Ryan Hagen for being named Lincoln High School’s 2016 male scholar athlete of the year.
- Daniel Yaakob (Lincoln) will be attending University of North Florida in the fall for Computer Science and Engineering but will also play in the UNF band to continue his interest in music. While at Lincoln, he was the first chair alto saxophone for three years and the section leader for the last two.
Statistics by School:
- Leon High School has 21 of our graduates: 3 are graduating summa cum laude, 4 magna cum laude; 1 cum laude; 2 with honors and 5 with distinction.
- Lincoln High School has 7 of our graduates: 2 are graduating magna cum laude and 2 are graduating cum laude.
- Chiles High School has 6 of our graduates: 1 will graduate with honors and 3 are commended.
- Maclay School has 11 of our graduates; 3 of which will be graduating with honors.
One senior mom wrote in an email to us, “Our family has placed great value in the education and relationships our son fostered during his time at Holy Comforter. He remains close with his HCES friends. He views his time at Holy Comforter as a tremendous privilege that provided an excellent environment and quality education. As this chapter closes, we look forward to an exciting future for him, and will be forever grateful for the seeds planted at Holy Comforter!”
Congratulations to the HCES Class of 2012! We know that their formative years at Holy Comforter set them apart from their peers and inspired them to Be the Difference during their high school career.
