Holy Comforter Hosts Dr. Norm Thagard for 6th Lecture Series Event

Holy Comforter Episcopal School hosted the 6th installment of the Lecture Series on Tuesday, February 23rd at 7:00pm. The school’s Student Center welcomed over 200 guests who gathered to hear, Dr. Norm Thagard, a former NASA astronaut who flew on 4 Space Shuttle missions, and is the first American to ride to space on board a Russian space vehicle, the Mir. Dr. Thagard shared his life's work as he presented "My Life's Mission: A Journey to Space".

Dr. Thagard shared experiences of his life and his road to success and eventually becoming an astronaut in 1978. Through his slideshow he shared photos and took the audience on a journey through his life. He recalled several exciting moments such as getting the call from NASA at 7:00am while preparing for his nomal day's work as a doctor. When he answered the phone, he was asked if he was still interested in becoming an astronaut with the space program. His answer was a resounding "yes" - the rest is history. He served almost 18 years as an astronaut.

Dr. Thagard, who has accomplished so much throughout his career, took time at the conclusion of the lecture to meet several members of the audience (both children and families), signing autographs and snapping pictures.

Many thanks to presenting sponsor, Hancock Bank, for their support of the Holy Comforter Episcopal School Lecture Series.
